The Stavropol court decided to expel the rabbi of Stavropol from Russia

On March 24, the Stavropol Regional Court confirmed the verdict of the Stavropol District Court on the administrative expulsion from Russia of the Chief Rabbi of Stavropol, a Canadian citizen Zvi Hershkovich.

Thus, the regional court dismissed the rabbi's appeal against the decision of the district court. Ts. Hershkovich was accused of “violating the rules of registration at the place of residence” because he did not notify the migration service of his new place of residence within three days.

"The Jewish community of Russia is outraged by the court's decision. Such a decision once again shows that neither the local authorities nor the judicial system pay sufficient attention to the work of religious figures of the Jewish faith in the regions, wittingly or unwittingly seeking a revision of the inter-confessional map of Russia," the FEOR President said Alexander Beard.

He stressed that on March 11, at a joint meeting of the Presidium of the State Council of the Russian Federation and the Council for Cooperation with Religious Associations under the President of Russia, "a decision was made to look into this precedent and assist the Jewish community in this matter."

The Jewish community of Stavropol applied to the regional government in connection with this court decision.

Recall that this is not the first case of a decision to expel rabbis from Russia in 2009.
