On March 28, 2009, in Tula, the leaders of the Tula and Kursk branches of the Russian People's Democratic Union, Alexander Lestnikov and Igor Parshin, were detained for “extremist” actions.
Their actions consisted of approaching those gathered for a protest meeting in order to explain to them that the meeting was not sanctioned by the authorities. The police officers who approached, according to RNDS activists, said that their actions could be qualified as extremism and detained them.
