According to human rights activists, the press conference was conceived as "a human rights reaction to the attacks of nationalists against the Roma minority, which were also heard in the federal media " ( publication in the Komsomolskaya Pravda newspaper), provoked by the January incident in the St. Petersburg metro.
The press conference was attended by Svetlana Gannushkina (specialist in minority rights, member of the Council under the President of the Russian Federation to promote the development of civil society institutions and human rights); Stefania Kulaeva (Anti-Discrimination Center "Memorial"), Nikolai Bessonov (artist, specialist in the history and culture of the Roma), Natalia Shkurenok (journalist).
Representatives of "Komsomolskaya Pravda" ignored the press conference, despite the fact that they were informed of its holding.
