Kemerovo Jewish community about anti-Semitic publications in a local newspaper

On April 7, 2009, it became known that the Kemerovo Jewish religious community, in a letter to representatives of the regional administration, expressed serious concern about anti-Semitic publications in the regional newspaper of veterans "Countrymen" and asked "to curb presumptuous anti-Semites . "

On January 30, 2009, the newspaper published an article by V. Popk "Smarts and losers in the light of the fifth paragraph", "where, under the guise of criticizing the politician Valeria Novodvorskaya, the author repeated the traditional accusations against the Jewish people, which are deliberately slanderous and incite ethnic hatred" . In response to the article, a member of the Writers' Union of Russia V. L. Kaganov and labor veteran G. S. Epshtein sent letters to the editorial office of the newspaper, which were published on March 27 together with an article by the editor of the newspaper P. M. Bugaev entitled "Provocateurs" will not stop until the "smarts" go away.

The last publication also aroused indignation in the Jewish community, as it defended the article by V. Popk and contained accusations of the chairman of the Holocaust Center Alla Gerber and other human rights activists in " Jewish fascism" , "unambiguously making it clear that their activities are led by foreign forces" .
