The Public Chamber intends to create a council that controls the activities of the Expert Council under the Ministry of Justice

On April 10, the Slavyansk Legal Center hosted a press conference "Does Russia Need an Inquisition Court" dedicated to the creation of an Expert Council under the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation. The co-chair of the Slavic Legal Center Anatoly Pchelintsev, professor of the Russian Academy of Public Administration (RAGS) under the President of the Russian Federation Remir Lopatkin, head of the Encyclopedia of Modern Religious Life in Russia project Sergey Filatov, professor of the Academy of Labor and Social Relations Ekaterina Elbakyan, director of information and Analytical Center "SOVA" Alexander Verkhovsky, board member of the International Association for Religious Freedom (MARS) Mikhail Sitnikov, employee of the Center for the Study of Religion and Society at the Institute of Europe of the Russian Academy of Sciences Roman Lunkin.

The speakers expressed indignation at the unprofessionalism and bias of the members of the Council. A. Verkhovsky suggested that the activities of the Council would contribute to false accusations of extremism against religious associations. Recall that the head of this body was elected "sectarian" Alexander Dvorkin, and one of the members of the council, Alexander Kuzmin, is the author of an anti-Krishna leaflet , recognized as extremist material in a court of law.

According to Bishop Sergei Ryakhovsky, head of the Russian United Council of Evangelical Christians and member of the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation, who took part in the discussion, the Public Chamber intends to create a special council to monitor the activities of the Council under the Ministry of Justice on the basis of public control.
