In the Nizhny Novgorod region, a criminal case was initiated against an Orthodox priest under Part 1 of Article 282 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation

On March 2, the Investigative Committee under the Prosecutor's Office of the Russian Federation for the Nizhny Novgorod Region opened a criminal case against Archimandrite Seraphim (Levitskikh) under Part 1 of Article 282 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (inciting hatred or enmity).

In November 2007, the priest visited a colony in the village of Voskhod, Varnavinsky district, Nizhny Novgorod region (the priest himself is a clergyman of the Vyatka diocese), confessed the prisoners and distributed video cassettes with explanatory notes to them. On February 5, 2008, a colony officer confiscated these cassettes. It turned out that one of them contained the film "Russia with a knife in the back. Jewish fascism and the genocide of the Russian people", which was recognized as extremist material in the Leninsky District Court of Kirov in 2007.

In addition, the prosecutor's office established that the explanatory note attached to the cassettes brought by the priest contained "statements aimed at inciting hostility towards the "enemies of Orthodoxy - the Jewish Masons"".
