Human rights activists are trying to challenge the decision to ban Tablighi Jamaat

“Supporters of the Tablighi Jamaat who have applied to the Association claim that their movement is not a legal entity, it has no leadership and structural divisions, it is a meeting of Muslims by interests to explain to people, mainly ethnically and historically close to Islam, the need to perform religious rites.

The appeal notes that "Tablighi Jamaat has never been engaged in illegal activities, it has never been hidden, all activities are open to strangers, and law enforcement agencies have never made any claims." Supporters of Tablighi Jamaat in their complaint are asking to cancel the contested court decision and to allow them to familiarize themselves with both the text of this decision and the materials of the case that served to issue it. They are confident that this decision of the Supreme Court of Russia will be followed by a wave of criminal prosecution for participation in the activities of an extremist organization," the AGORA association said in a statement.
