In Nizhny Novgorod, members of the youth nationalist group "OB-88" ("White Society Heil Fuhrer") were detained. (Initially, one suspect was reported to have been detained.) A criminal case has been initiated under Article 282.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (organization of an extremist community). Members of the group committed attacks and killings motivated by ethnic hatred. This was announced on May 20, 2009 at a press conference by the head of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation for the Volga Federal District Vladimir Shcherbakov.
Law enforcement officers came to OB-88 during an investigation into the murder of a native of Armenia in September 2008. It is reported that neo-Nazis are suspected in two more episodes. In the apartment of one of the suspects, "leaflets with images of the swastika and related literature" were found. The Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation for the Volga Federal District is checking in relation to the OB-88 grouping.
