Novocherkassk authorities fear problems with the return of church property

The head of the City Duma of Novocherkassk, V. Zolotarenko, expressed his concern about the discussed draft law "On the transfer of religious property to religious organizations." The law will affect 11 facilities in Novocherkassk (Rostov region).

"Until the document is approved by the Ministry of Economic Development, there is nothing to comment on. The property that is in the gratuitous use of the church, including memorial churches, is still difficult to assess," he said.

According to him, if the law is adopted, it will be justified at present. "However, the issue of the transfer and maintenance of land and property should be addressed differently for each facility. It is necessary to hold public hearings, the people should become a participant in the discussion of issues for each building," the deputy noted. In addition, he drew attention to a number of problems that may arise with buildings that are currently not owned by the state, but in the hands of private individuals.
