The Chelyabinsk diocese accused the Chelyabinsk Pedagogical University of spreading the occult

The missionary department of the Chelyabinsk diocese issued a statement in connection with teaching students of the Chelyabinsk State Pedagogical University (CSPU) a special course on non-traditional healing methods. According to the diocese, Elena Kushnina’s textbook “Fundamentals of Medical Knowledge and a Healthy Lifestyle” promotes the occult and the New Age movement. The author of the manual refers to the teachings of Feng Shui, recommends monitoring the biofield, cleansing the aura, and talks about “energy donors” and “energy vampires.”

All this, according to the diocese, does not correspond to the scientific worldview and forms a magical consciousness. The authors of the statement recommend that the university management withdraw the textbook from circulation and stop teaching the special course.

The rector of Chelyabinsk State Pedagogical University Vitaly Latyushin considers the diocese’s claims to be unfounded. He recalled that the church in Russia is separated from the state: “Science and the church have never been sisters and never walked hand in hand. Let’s be mutually polite. The church doesn’t accept some things, science doesn’t accept some things. And we never have sects.” it was, is not and will not be.
