In early June 2009, the central office of the Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology and Mass Communications (Roskomnadzor) issued a warning to the editorial offices of two newspapers for violating Article 4 of the Russian law "On the Mass Media".
A warning was issued to the editors of the newspaper "Vesti Slavyan Yuga Rossii" for the publication of articles by B. Solomakh "A Word to the Reader" and V. Nikiforova "Official Russian March-2008" in No. 1 (201) / 2009 and the editors of the newspaper "Smolensk Gubernskie Vedomosti " for publishing an illustration depicting Nazi symbols (swastikas) in No. 20 (640) dated May 26, 2009 (we cannot judge the legality of this warning, but we suspect that it is among the illegal warnings issued due to the literal interpretation of the law which makes it impossible to use such symbols, including quoting military chronicles, publishing neo-Nazi symbols as an illustration of the growing racist threat in the country, etc.).
