On June 22, 2009, the Altai Regional Court delivered a verdict in the case of the Nazi skinhead group "Wolves of Odin", which committed about ten attacks in Barnaul motivated by ethnic hatred. Two people died as a result of the attacks.
The court sentenced the alleged organizer of the community, Aleksey Kelber, to 23 years in prison (the prosecution demanded 25 years for him). Four defendants were also sentenced to long terms - from 9-9.5 to 19 years. Pavel Pakhomov and Andrey Smirnov were given suspended sentences: both were charged only under Part 2 of Art. 213 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, and also actively cooperated with the investigation.
The process in the case of the Wolves of Odin group, at the request of the prosecution, was held behind closed doors. According to employees of the department of state prosecutors of the Altai Regional Prosecutor's Office, after the defeat of the group, law enforcement officers received threats of physical violence.
