The government of the Moscow region will partially pay for the heating of monasteries near Moscow and parishes of the Russian Orthodox Church. The government approved a procedure for compensating the difference in prices for natural gas supplied to these religious organizations at prices set for industrial enterprises and prices set for the population.
Acting Regional Minister of Housing Alexander Solovyov said that "the total amount of subsidies for these purposes in 2009 will amount to 8.2 million rubles." He explained that the reimbursement would be carried out on the basis of agreements between his ministry and the Moscow Patriarchate and the Moscow Diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church.
