In mid-July 2009, neo-Nazis began to threaten Konstantin Baranov, leader of the Rostov regional branch of the All-Russian youth public charitable organization Young Europe, who began to receive threatening calls and letters. The website of the Young Europe group on the VKontakte social network was also subjected to spam attacks by Nazi skinheads.
Konstantin Baranov directly connects the actions of neo-Nazis with the activity of the organization he leads to counteract ultra-right music concerts in the city (recently, Rostov-on-Don has been one of the most popular venues for neo-Nazi concerts, which attract Nazi skinheads from many Russian regions).
In June-July 2009, the organization three times applied to the regional prosecutor's office with statements about the upcoming neo-Nazi events, and also transmitted information to the center for combating extremism of the Central Internal Affairs Directorate of the Rostov Region. Representatives of "Young Europe" publicly announced the existing problem at a round table "The problem of extremism and crime among young people" on June 17, 2009, which was attended by representatives of the regional police department, the regional prosecutor's office and the FSB department.
However, no action was taken. Instead, the personal data of the leader of the organization, indirect calls for reprisals against him were posted on the Internet. Immediately after this, the threats began.
The nature of the information posted on the Internet with a high degree of probability suggests that its source was employees of the prosecutor's office of the Rostov region, who knowingly or through negligence familiarized the neo-Nazis not only with the text of the statement, but also with the applicant's data (although the prosecutor's office itself excludes such a possibility).
At present, Young Europe - Rostov is preparing a statement to the General Prosecutor's Office of the Russian Federation with a request to conduct an investigation into the disclosure of information about the applicant by the Prosecutor's Office of the Rostov Region and ensure his personal safety.
