In the Rostov region, the court protected the reputation of a teacher from religious defamation

The Oktyabrsky District Court of Rostov-on-Don found CJSC Publishing House "Komsomolskaya Pravda" and CJSC "Komsomolskaya Pravda-Rostov" guilty of disseminating false information discrediting the honor and dignity of Valentina Shulgina, the former head teacher of school No. 46 in Rostov-on-Don.

It should be reminded that on December 6, 2007 in the Rostov issue of "Komsomolskaya Pravda" an article appeared that "sectarians" held an event dedicated to the Russian language in the city school N46. After that, the prosecutor's office instructed the Department of Education and the Commission on Juvenile Affairs under the Ministry of Internal Affairs to check the incident.

During the inspection at school No. 46, no facts were revealed of the involvement of children in a religious organization, the promotion of religious views, the impact on the psyche, as well as other facts indicated in the article.

The court satisfied the claims of Valentina Shulgina for the protection of honor, dignity and business reputation, as well as compensation for non-pecuniary damage. The court ordered ZAO Publishing House "Komsomolskaya Pravda" to publish a refutation in the regional Rostov edition of the newspaper "Komsomolskaya Pravda", and also recovered in favor of Shulgina monetary compensation for moral damages in the amount of 25,000 rubles from ZAO "Komsomolskaya Pravda-Rostov" and 25,000 rubles from ZAO Publishing House "TVNZ".

The court decision notes: "The discrediting nature of this information is confirmed by the fact that they contain allegations of a violation by the plaintiff of the current legislation, bad faith in the exercise of professional activities, committing dishonest acts, incorrect, unethical behavior in professional activities."
