Mass brawl in the Stavropol region

On August 19, 2009, in the village of Pelagiada, Shpakovsky District, Stavropol Territory, a mass brawl broke out between Russians and Dargins, as a result of which one person died and several were injured.

The scale of the fight is difficult to assess. Media reports about 300 participants. However, according to the head of the Investigative Department, Sergei Polyakov, "The information that has passed in the media about 300 participants in the fight is not confirmed. Several Russian residents of the neighboring village, whose acquaintance had been beaten up by several Dargins the day before, came to the village shop "Bakarat" and started a fight. As a result of the collision, a Dargin resident Arsen Magomedov was killed, a Russian cafe saleswoman and four Dargins were injured.

Several participants in the fight were detained. A criminal case has been initiated under Art. 105 (murder) and Art. 222 (illegal carrying of weapons) of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.
