The Supreme Court of the Russian Federation approved the sentence of a participant in racist attacks

On September 16, 2009, the Supreme Court of Russia approved the guilty verdict of the Tver Regional Court, issued on July 15, 2009 against Anton Tabachkov. He was sentenced to 9 years in prison in a strict regime colony for the murder of I. Ismatov and Kh. Dostiev motivated by ethnic hatred in 2005.

In the cassation, submitted to the Supreme Court of Russia, the defendant's lawyers asked to reclassify the charge from paragraphs. "a", "g", "l" part 2 of article 105 (murder of two or more persons committed by a group motivated by national hatred) to part 1 of art. 115 (deliberate infliction of light bodily harm) or even cancel the guilty verdict for lack of evidence, and send the case for retrial by another court, pointing to numerous procedural violations.

However, the court did not agree with the arguments of the defense and left the guilty verdict unchanged.

Recall that A. Tabachkov was the last of those detained in the case of a whole series of racist crimes in the Tver region (he was detained only in January of this year, while the trial of the rest of the gang members began in the fall of 2008). However, it was his case, unlike the others, that ended before anyone else. And the guilty verdict became known only from the fact of consideration of the cassation by the Supreme Court.
