September 21-22, 2009 in Kislovodsk (Stavropol Territory) a seminar "Application of legislation on countering extremism in the practice of the media" was organized by ANO "Center for the Protection of Media Rights of the Republic of Dagestan" in conjunction with the international organization "Article 19".

The seminar was attended by journalists, newspaper editors, lawyers, representatives of Roskomnadzor and prosecutors from the regions of the Southern Federal District (Karachay-Cherkessia, Kabardino-Balkaria, Dagestan, North Ossetia, Ingushetia, Adygea, Stavropol and Krasnodar Territories).
For two days, the seminar participants and experts discussed the most relevant problems for the media in the theory and practice of applying anti-extremist and anti-terrorist legislation - its structure, sanctions, the procedure for issuing warnings and persecuting the media and individual journalists for certain statements, issues of expertise and self-regulation of the journalistic community.
