The Perm diocese has been unable to obtain the allocation of land for the construction of churches for 7 years

Speaking on August 13 at a meeting of deans and members of the diocesan council, abbots of monasteries and heads of diocesan departments, dedicated to the problems of spiritual education, Bishop Irinarkh (Gresin) of Perm and Solikamsk touched upon the problem of the lack of churches.

According to him, Perm needs at least 20 new churches in "sleeping" areas. The Bishop raised the issue of allocation of 20 land plots to the secular authorities in May 2002. After 6 years, they managed to obtain permission to receive only three plots - one for the construction of a memorial church in memory of those killed in a plane crash on September 14, 2008, and two more - for parish churches.

"But the minimum of new churches to be built in the near future in the million-plus city, which is the city of Perm, is 20 churches, for permission to build which I have been asking the leadership of the province for the eighth year," Vladyka said.

However, at the same time, the hierarch's report notes, "in the Perm diocese, almost 30% of the churches are ascribed and do not have their own superiors to perform divine services and send trebs," and "the minimum requirement is about 90 clergy."
