On October 1, 2009, the city court of Gorno-Altaisk ruled on the application of the city prosecutor's office and recognized 18 materials of Jehovah's Witnesses as extremist.

The court agreed with the expert's conclusions that the publications contained signs of inciting religious activity. According to the press service of Jehovah's Witnesses, the opinion of experts that "if a confessional publication does not contain a positive assessment of another religion, then it is aimed at inciting religious hatred" is absurd.

In addition, the press service reports that "there are facts that aggressive-minded people, having learned about the court's decision, turn from threats to violence, citing the fact that Jehovah's Witnesses are now supposedly banned. "

The decision will be appealed to the Supreme Court of the Altai Republic and has not yet entered into force.
