Ethnic Russian beaten in Maykop

On October 6, 2009, in the center of the city of Maykop (Republic of Adygea), three young people, immigrants from Kabardino-Balkaria, attacked an ethnic Russian passerby, Yevgeny Borisov.

The conflict began with the fact that the victim was asked to light a cigarette, and when he refused, they began to shout anti-Russian insults and hit him several times.

On the fact of the attack, a criminal case was initiated under Art. 213 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (hooliganism motivated by national hatred), as well as under Art. 115 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (causing minor bodily harm out of hooligan motives, based on national hatred).

The attack became known only in July 2010 in connection with a report that the case had been taken to court.
