Criminal case against the National Bolsheviks in Barnaul

On October 21, 2009, the investigating authorities of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the Altai Territory announced the initiation of a criminal case against a 32-year-old resident of Barnaul under Part 2 of Art. 282.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (participation in the activities of an organization in respect of which a court has decided to ban in connection with the implementation of extremist activities).

The suspect is charged with participation in the activities of the National Bolshevik Party. According to the Investigative Committee, during his arrest, leaflets were confiscated from him, "calling for hostile violent actions against a social group of people united on the basis of nationality, as well as containing justification for the need for violent actions against the authorities and their representatives."

The Investigative Committee does not give the name of the suspect and does not give specific examples of extremist statements.

Nevertheless, we do not doubt the unlawful nature of this case, firstly, because we do not consider it lawful to ban the NBP, and secondly, because of the illiterate wording "a social group of persons united on the basis of nationality."

On November 15, 2009, information appeared that a criminal case was initiated against the Barnaul National Bolshevik Dmitry Bychkov under Art. 282.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. On November 13, witnesses were questioned. It is safe to assume that we are talking about the same criminal case.
