The prosecutor's office found a violation of the principle of secularism in the rules for admitting children to a private Jewish school in St. Petersburg

In October, the prosecutor's office of the Vyborgsky district of St. Petersburg conducted an audit of charters and local acts in non-state educational institutions. The prosecutor's office saw a violation of the constitutional principle of the state's secularism in the procedure for admitting children to the private Jewish school-garden "Menachem". School rules provide for the possibility of refusing admission to children in the absence of documents confirming their Jewish origin on the maternal side.

The prosecutor's office recalled that Russia is a secular state, no religion can be established as mandatory, and restriction of the rights of citizens, including the right to education, on the basis of race, nationality and attitude to religion is unacceptable.

The relevant submission was made to the founder of the "Menachem" kindergarten school, the regulation on the procedure for admitting children to this school was protested. The prosecutor's office also demanded that appropriate changes be made to the texts published on the school's website.

The school satisfied the requirements of the prosecutor voluntarily, the lawsuit was terminated.
