Suspects named in the murder of Stanislav Markelov and Anastasia Baburova

On November 5, 2009, the names of two suspects in the murder of Stanislav Markelov and Anastasia Baburova were made public. This is Nikita Tikhonov (born in 1980) and Evgenia Khasis (born in 1985). They were detained on November 3 and 4, 2009 as a result of investigative and operational activities carried out by investigators of the Main Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation and operational officers of the FSB and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia. Tikhonov and Khasis were arrested. On November 4, 2009, they were charged under Art. “a”, “g” part 2 of article 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (murder committed by a group of persons). Tikhonov confessed.

The investigation states that these people are RNE activists (the latter was immediately refuted by Alexander Barkashov).

The candidacy of Nikita Tikhonov as a suspect in this crime looks very plausible: in 2006-2007. his name was mentioned as one of the suspects in the murder of anti-fascist Alexander Ryukhin by Nazi skinheads. The interests of the victims were represented in court by Stanislav Markelov, and it was he who ensured that three of those detained in this case received almost the maximum possible sentences based on the qualifications presented. So the motive is quite convincing.

Meanwhile, let us recall that at that time the investigation stated that Tikhonov was involved not in the RNU, but in the United Brigades-88, and those convicted in this case, Vasily Reutsky, Andrei Antsiferov and Alexander Shitov, were involved in the Slavic Union and Format-18 " .

The SKP announced that in the near future N. Tikhonov is going to be sent for a psychiatric examination.

E. Khasis refused the lawyer provided to her by the investigation and expressed a desire to use the services of a defense lawyer who once represented the interests of Maxim Martsinkevich (Tesak). Alexander Vasiliev, who acted as Tesak’s defense attorney at the trial under Art. 282 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, refused to provide Khasis with his services. He stated that he “wouldn’t defend her,” and when asked about meeting her, he said he didn’t want to “talk about it” and hung up.

On November 6, 2009, it became known that Tikhonov and Khasis were possibly involved in the September 3, 2009 murder of Rasul Khalilov, a defendant in the Black Hawks case. Let us recall that earlier a certain “Combat Organization of Russian Nationalists” (BORN) took responsibility for the murder of Khalilov.

According to the head of the FSB, Alexander Bortnikov, “another murder committed in September on the basis of national hatred” was solved , in which the same group was involved, and “the intention of this group to commit another murder was revealed, which could become resonant.”

On November 30, the Moscow City Court rejected the complaint against the arrest of Evgenia Khasis, in which the defense asked to cancel the decision of the Basmanny Court of Moscow of November 5, which authorized the arrest.

On December 24, Evgenia Khasis was charged with new charges under Article 222 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (illegal arms trafficking). The charge relates to a weapon "found in the residence where she was found."

On February 2, 2010, the defendant added the hate motive to the charge.

In April 2010, the court extended Nikita Tikhonov’s arrest until August 19.
