Irek Murtazin was sentenced

On November 26, 2009, the Kirovsky District Court of Kazan convicted Irek Murtazin in the case under Part 2 of Article 129 (slander), Part 1 of Article 282 (inciting hatred towards a social group; charges under paragraph “a”, Part 2, i.e. the same, but with the threat of violence, has disappeared) of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. Under Part 1 of Article 137 (violation of privacy), Murtazin was acquitted.

The former press secretary of President Shaimiev was sentenced to 1 year and 9 months in a penal colony. (The term was obtained by incomplete addition. Punishment under Part 2 of Article 129 of the Criminal Code is correctional labor for a period of one year and six months with the withholding of 20% of wages to the state, under Part 1 of Article 282 of the Criminal Code - imprisonment for a period of one year and six months).

Murtazin has already filed a cassation appeal.

Let us remind you that we do not consider it legitimate to persecute a journalist. See also his own opinion regarding equating the authorities of Tatarstan with a social group.

In our opinion, the sentence is not only unfair, but also too cruel, given that not all real propagandists of hatred receive real sentences for their activities.

Let us note that the judge who passed the sentence previously made ignorant statements, calling the Tatars a social group.

On January 31, 2011, the Mendeleevsky District Court of Tatarstan decided to release Irek Murtazin on parole. This happened six months before the end of his term.
