TsDUM asks the mayor of Moscow to prevent the demolition of the Cathedral Mosque

On December 7, 2009, the Central Spiritual Administration of Muslims sent an open appeal to Moscow Mayor Yu. Luzhkov in connection with plans to demolish the Moscow Cathedral Mosque. The Muslims are asking Yu. Luzhkov, R. Gainutdin and "all Moscow and Russian Muslims" to prevent the demolition of the mosque building.

"The demolition of the historic building of the Moscow Cathedral Mosque is a blasphemous act. Attempts to destroy it will undoubtedly cause a wave of indignation among the entire Russian Muslim community," the authors of the appeal emphasize.

In addition, the Central Muslim Spiritual Directorate believes "that the dismantling of the historic building of the Moscow Cathedral Mosque with the connivance of the Council of Muftis of Russia may create a precedent and entail the possibility of further destruction of Russian mosques or their sale."
