In Chuvashia, a criminal case for racist SMS sent to court

The prosecutor's office of the Chuvash Republic approved the indictment in a criminal case against a resident of Cheboksary, 24-year-old Galina Shitova, who on January 7, 2009 sent racist SMS messages from her mobile phone to the live ticker of the local TV channel Channel 5+TNT. She is charged with Part 1 of Art. 282 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (inciting hatred or enmity, as well as humiliation of human dignity). On December 15, 2009, the materials of the criminal case were sent to the Moskovsky District Court of Cheboksary for consideration on the merits.

The investigation into the case was carried out by the Department for the Investigation of Particularly Important Cases of the Investigative Committee of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the Chuvash Republic.
