Damir Shaikhutdinov was convicted in Tatarstan

On January 14, 2010, the city court of Naberezhnye Chelny found Damir Shaikhutdinov, editor of the newspaper Chally Yashlere (Youth of Chelny), guilty under Part 2 of Art. 282 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (incitement of hatred or enmity committed by a person using his official position) and sentenced him to one and a half years of imprisonment on probation with a probationary period of two years.

Shaikhutdinov was charged with two episodes, on which criminal cases were initiated, apparently combined into one. We are talking about the publication in the newspaper of the texts of the article "Secret testament of Peter I" and documents of the Milli Mejlis (national parliament) of the Tatar people. The first of the texts was previously recognized as extremist material. In all documents, in our opinion, there are no signs of extremism sufficient for criminal prosecution.
