On December 22, 2009, representatives of the Regional Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Udmurtia (RDUMU), headed by Faiz Mukhamedshin, visited the Izhevsk colony LIU-4. There they met with the head of the colony, Gurban Eminov, and with the convicts.
During the visit, the earlier information about the beating of Muslim prisoners and insulting them on religious grounds was not confirmed.
Muslims serving sentences in LIU-4 reported that a mosque operates on the territory of the colony: “We perform Namaz in the mosque depending on the daily routine. But we can perform it in other places, no one objects. We also receive Muslim newspapers, spiritual We read literature either in the library or where we live.
None of those who came to the meeting with representatives of the RDUMU experienced pressure from the administration due to their religious or ethnic affiliation.
The message about discrimination against Muslims appeared thanks to a letter from prisoner Zyalmakh Kodzoev. Commenting on the situation with him, the head of the colony, Gurban Eminov, said: “During the planned search, Zyalmakh Kodzoev was rude and disobeyed the employees, for which he was placed in a punishment cell. But he did not calm down there either, during the search in the cell he showed physical resistance. : bending the convict's hands behind his back, he was locked in a cell. No special equipment was used in this case. All materials on this fact were transferred to the prosecutor's office, an audit is now underway. "
The public monitoring commission that visited the colony also did not confirm the facts of discrimination.
