Lipetsk City Council helps Orthodox and Baptists conclude a settlement agreement in the conflict over the temple building

On January 26, the commission of the Lipetsk City Council for Economics, Budget, Municipal Property, Tax and Investment and Industrial Policy considered the issue of transferring the building of the former boiler house on the street to the Russian Orthodox Church. Studenovskaya, 39. After the transfer of the ROC, this building should be offered to the community of Evangelical Christian Baptists.

The conflict between the Lipetsk diocese and the Baptist community has been going on for several years. The Orthodox are demanding the return of the Trinity Church, which was handed over to the Protestants in 1989. The case went to court . The ECB community expressed its readiness to leave the temple if they received an equivalent building and compensation for the restoration costs, estimated at 18 million rubles, but the authorities refused to fulfill these conditions.

Now city deputies are preparing a decision to transfer the premises of the former boiler house to the diocese so that it can offer them to the Baptists as an exchange for the temple building they occupy. This way the parties can come to an amicable agreement.

The issue of transferring the boiler house from municipal property to church property was submitted to a meeting of the City Council session.

On February 2, at a session of the City Council, it was decided to transfer the building of the former boiler house to the property of the parish of the Trinity Church.
