The Museum of City Sculpture of St. Petersburg does not intend to transfer the objects of the Alexander Nevsky Lavra to the Church

Director of the State Museum of Urban Sculpture of St. Petersburg, Vladimir Timofeev, during a press conference on January 27, said that the museum does not intend to transfer the Annunciation tomb to the Alexander Nevsky Lavra, as participants in the interregional conference “Alexander Nevsky - the name of Russia” requested .

He called the transfer of the tomb to the Russian Orthodox Church “senseless” and doubted the historical affiliation of the tomb of the Church: “The Annunciation tomb was built with public money as a burial place for members of the House of Romanov. In addition, more than 120 prominent figures of Russia are buried here. This place was transformed into a national pantheon, and no services were held there."

The burials of the Annunciation burial vault, according to V. Timofeev, are of purely historical value. In addition, the museum's collection of memorial sculpture is kept there.

The possibility of transferring churches at the Tikhvin and Lazarevskoye cemeteries was not discussed at the press conference.
