In Irkutsk, Center "E" participated in a search of an environmental organization

On January 28, 2010, the center for combating crimes in the consumer market of the Central Internal Affairs Directorate for the Irkutsk Region conducted a search in the office of the Irkutsk organization "Baikal Ecological Wave" under the pretext of checking the licensedness of operating systems on computers.

During the search, during which computers and documents were confiscated, employees of the center for combating extremism of the regional police department were present. According to ecologists, law enforcement officers did not show documents for the search.

Employees of the "Baikal Ecological Wave" claim that all computers in their office have either licensed or free software.

It is puzzling why Center "E" participated in the illegal search, especially since the topic of unlicensed software is not within its competence.

On February 8, 2010, representatives of the organization appealed to the prosecutor of the Irkutsk region with a request to bring to justice the law enforcement officers who conducted the search.

On March 4, 2010, it became known that a criminal case had been opened on the fact of the discovery of non-licensed software under Art. 146 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (infringement of copyright and related rights).
