The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation has determined the size of the salaries of priests appointed tothe position of assistant unit commanders for work with religious servicemen: from 25 to 40 thousand rubles per month - depending on the place of stay.
Clergy serving at the Russian military base in Tajikistan and Armenia will receive about 40 thousand rubles, in other military contingents - from 25 to 35 thousand.
On February 2, speaking at the Bishops' Conference in Moscow, Patriarch Kirill noted that the Church needs to prepare about 400 priests to serve as chaplains. It is planned to organize special courses for their preparation.
According to him, of the almost 30 priests who arrived at military training in the Southern Federal District in December 2009, the majority had no idea “where and why they had come”: “As a result, most of them simply left the training, explaining that cannot perform such service."
