Problems of countering extremism among youth were discussed in Karachay-Cherkessia

February 18, 2010 in Karachay-Cherkessia held a meeting of the "round table" on countering extremism and terrorism among young people. The event was organized by the faculty of the Karachay-Cherkess Technological Academy.

Speaker of the Parliament of Karachay-Cherkessia Alexander Ivanov, ministers, members of the republican anti-terrorist commission, the scientific community of the republic, psychologists, teachers and students of KCHGTA took part in the "round table".

"It is necessary to coordinate and interact between the state and society in joint work to counter the ideology of extremism and terrorism among young people ... Without the approval of legal standards of social behavior established by the Constitution, it is impossible to solve these problems. Society must clearly understand that terrorism and extremism are a threat to our being." - said the President of Karachay-Cherkessia Boris Ebzeev.

In addition, Mufti of Muslims of Karachay-Cherkessia and Stavropol Ismail Berdiev, dean of all Orthodox churches in Karachay-Cherkessia father Valentin, head of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation for Karachay-Cherkessia Valery Ostrovetsky, prosecutor of the republic Oleg Ponasenko spoke at the round table.

The head of the republic's FSB declared the need to "strengthen control over the mass media." "Unfortunately, some of our media are subject to manifestations of extremism. A number of articles were subjected to examination, and in relation to some authors, the materials were sent to the prosecutor's office ," he said.

Speakers at the round table said that young people, as the most socially unprotected group of the population, are "the most active participants in conflicts and various kinds of destructive organizations, including extremist ones . " The complexity of the situation in which the youth of Russia find themselves is also determined by the socio-economic instability of society.

At the end of the event, a resolution was drawn up with recommendations to "develop the legal culture of young people, shape their political maturity and the specifics of economic thinking" . One of the forms of youth upbringing can be the planned scientific-practical conference "Formation of legal awareness of youth as a strategic factor in the development of modern society." The role of the media, which can become the most powerful and effective means of implementing the state youth policy, was especially designated.

In addition, as a result of the event, an appeal was adopted to the participants of the "round table" with a list of the main areas of preventive work among the youth.
