The Ministry of Justice issued a warning to DUMER for creating representative offices in federal districts

On February 19, the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation issued a warning to the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of the European Part of Russia in connection with the creation of DUMER representative offices in the Volga, Northwestern, Central and Southern federal districts.

“The said decision contradicts the requirements of the legislation of the Russian Federation and does not comply with the provisions of the DUMER charter,” Interfax-Religion quotes a warning signed by Deputy Minister Alu Alkhanov.

The text states that the federal districts created by the President of the Russian Federation in 2000 “cannot serve as a basis for determining the territorial scope of activity of a religious organization,” and the boundaries of the districts cannot determine the competence of officials of a religious organization.

The document also notes that the positions of deputy chairmen of DUMER “are not provided for in the organization’s charter.”

DUMER should submit documents confirming the elimination of the identified violations to the Ministry of Justice no later than March 25.
