Since that time, he has been involved in wheelchair sports. In 1992, he was first included in the Paralympic team and participated in the Paralympic Games in Barcelona (Spain). In 1998, Sergey Shilov took 1st place in cross-country skiing at a distance of 5 km at the Paralympic Games in Nagano (Japan). In 2002, at the games in Salt Lake City, he won 3 gold medals: in the relay race, in races at distances of 5 and 15 km. At the same Paralympic Games, he won the silver medal in the 10 km race.
