According to 45% of Russians, the presence of military clergy is necessary in the modern Russian army

On February 13-14, 2010, VTsIOM conducted a survey on the need formilitary chaplains in the army. 1,600 people were surveyed in 140 localities in 42 regions, territories and republics of Russia. The survey showed that 45% of Russians believe that the modern Russian Army needs military chaplains.

However, over the past four years the share of such respondents has decreased (from 53% in 2006). Mainly residents of the North-Western District (55%) and residents of the Far East (50%), as well as residents of Moscow (48%) are confident in the need for clergy in the army. 17% do not have a clear opinion on this matter. 19% of respondents believe that military personnel do not need clergy representatives.
