"Heroes Day" in different cities of Russia

On February 28 and March 1, 2010, far-right and other ethno-nationalist groups held actions in various cities of Russia under the general name "Day of Heroes" in memory of the Pskov paratroopers who died in Chechnya in 2000. In addition to Moscow and Nizhny Novgorod, where a small number of rallies were held, the action took place in fifteen other cities of Russia, where everything basically boiled down to laying flowers at military memorials.

The organizers of the action in Nizhny Novgorod initially announced that at the rally they would demand amnesty for all Russian servicemen "prosecuted for so-called war crimes" (Arakcheeva, Ulman, Budanov) - those who "are humiliated by former bandits and the ungrateful Russian leadership" .

In Moscow, no more than 200 people took part in the action (according to the organizers - 250 people). V. Ermolaev (DPNI), D. Demushkin (Slavic Union), Y. Shirokov (Slavic Union), V. Kvachkov (People's Militia), Y. Ekishev (Parabellum), L. Simonovich-Niksic ( Union of Orthodox Banner-bearers), G. Borovikov ("Memory"), rock singer A. Hammer, activists of the "Russian National Unity" (RNE) and the "Resistance" movement were also present. The rally was led by V. Tor (DPNI). Judging by the photo reports, many ordinary participants in the rally raised their hands in a Nazi salute.

In Nizhny Novgorod, a rally was held near the stele "To Nizhny Novgorod who fell in Afghanistan and Chechnya", which was attended by about 50 people. Representatives of the DPNI, the Russian National Union (RONS), the "Union of Struggle for People's Sobriety" (SBNT), as well as Orthodox organizations of the city, spoke. After the action, two DPNI activists were detained. The reasons for the detention and the consequences are unknown.

On February 28, within the framework of the action, events (mainly flower laying) were also held in:

• St. Petersburg (participation was taken by activists of the DPNI, the "Russian Imperial Movement", the Slavic Union, the NPF "Pamyat", the "People's Cathedral", about 30 people in total);
• Barnaul (DPNI activists, 5 people);
• Krasnodar (DPNI activists);
• Michurinsk (Tambov region) ;
• Orle (DPNI activists, 11 people);
• Rostov-on-Don (activists of the DPNI);
• Slavyansk-on-Kuban (DPNI activists, about 9 people);
• Thule (activists of the "National Union", about 40 people without flags and banners);
• Ulyanovsk (DPNI activists, about 30 people).

On March 1, the laying of flowers was also held in: - Kursk (DPNI activists, about 8 people); - Novosibirsk (DPNI activists, most likely, an extremely small number of participants). - Ryazan (DPNI activists, about 14 people); - Tambov (DPNI activists, about 30 people).

Also laying flowers took place in: - Vologda (DPNI activists, 6 people); - Kirov (DPNI activists, 3 people).

Also, actions dedicated to the "Day of Heroes" were announced in Voronezh and Torzhok . In these cities, the actions either did not take place, or reports about them were not posted.
