On February 9, 2010, the Kirov Magistrate's Court delivered a guilty verdict against Vasily Varankin, who beat in May 2009 his neighbor, disabled Andrei Kopanev. The court sentenced him under paragraph "a" part 2 of Art. 116 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (inflicting beatings out of hooligan motives) to 1 year of imprisonment on probation with a probationary period of 1.5 years.
During the trial, the defendant stated that he hit Kopanev only because he began to insult his dead brother. However, we note that in the case of the attack on the neighbor there are details that indicate the likelihood of a hate motive and that the beating of Kopanev was an action.
It should also be noted that V. Varankin ("Paralysis") heads the musical group "Basil" (the group specializes in promoting streetage, a healthy lifestyle and National Socialism).
Earlier it was reported that a total of three criminal cases were initiated against Varankin. In October 2009, V. Varankin was charged with beating two Azerbaijani citizens. Varankin is also charged with distributing leaflets at the picket, in which the investigation sees signs of extremism, and also charged with threatening to kill a woman.
