The governor of the Perm region promises to move the art gallery from the cathedral building

On March 18, Governor of the Perm Territory Oleg Chirkunov, speaking with a message to the legislative assembly, touched upon the topic of reconstruction and construction of cultural facilities. In particular, they talked about the new building of the Perm Art Gallery, which since 1931 has been located in the building of the Transfiguration Cathedral.

The Perm authorities have been promising to move the gallery to another building for several years, but have been unable to find suitable premises for this. In February 2010, Bishop Irinarch of Perm and Solikamsk threatened to appeal to the administration of the President of the Russian Federation if the cathedral was not vacated in the near future.

The governor spoke about the project of the new gallery building, developed by the Russian architect Boris Bernasconi. The project "was suspended due to the incorrectness of the technical specifications formulated for the competition." However, in the opinion of O. Chirkunov, “the possibility of placing an art gallery and a collection of Perm wooden sculpture in this building should be assessed in the coming months” in order to “develop and make a reasonable decision on the new building of the Perm Art Gallery this year.”
