Another inspection of schools for access to “extremist” network resources in Kalmykia

On March 24, 2010, the prosecutor's office of the Yashkul district (Republic of Kalmykia) issued a motion to school principals to eliminate violations of federal law in the field of combating extremist activity in educational institutions.

In the Yashkul district, 13 schools have broadband access to the Internet through the central content filtering system.

The audit found that the system of Internet filters on school computers does not protect students from accessing sites with illegal content (including pornographic and xenophobic content).

In our opinion, the claims of the prosecutor's office are not entirely justified because the access filters that did not cope with the task were provided by the Federal Agency for Education, and school principals could simply not be aware of the non-functionality of this software or be unable to correct its shortcomings.
