Searches in rural mosques in the Chelyabinsk region

On April 19, searches were carried out in the mosques of the village of Argayash and the villages of Ayazgulovo and Akbashevo in the Chelyabinsk region. Imam-khatib of the Ozersk mosque Gabdulla Shaimardanov told Interfax that representatives of security forces were looking for extremist literature: “They haven’t found anything yet, but everything that belonged to the parishioners was scattered on the floor and trampled under dirty feet.”

The information was confirmed by the Mufti of the Chelyabinsk region from the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of the Asian Part of Russia, Vugar Akperov. The mosques in which the search was carried out are under the jurisdiction of this Muslim Spiritual Directorate, which is in conflict with the Regional Spiritual Administration of the Chelyabinsk and Kurgan Regions.

The chairman of the committee for interaction with public, religious and national-cultural associations of the government of the Chelyabinsk region, Ilya Anosov, said that he was not aware of the situation.

Senior assistant to the head of the regional Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation Vladimir Shishkov told AN "Access" that the searches were carried out by employees of the investigative department of the ZATO Ozersk on behalf of the investigative department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the Chelyabinsk region as part of the investigation of a criminal case under Part 1 of Art. 282 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (incitement of hatred or enmity, as well as humiliation of human dignity), introduced in mid-April.

During the searches, literature and documents were confiscated. It is expected that they will be sent for examination to check for calls for extremist activity.

Later it became known that on April 19, local resident Vildar (Abdulmalik) Yusupov, born in 1979, was detained. He was charged under Art. 282 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. Searches were also carried out in his house, the house of his relatives and a residential trailer on a plot of land belonging to Yusupov.

According to the Mufti of the Chelyabinsk Region (DUM AChR) Vugar Akperov , Yusupov studied in Saudi Arabia.
