As it became known in May 2010, in April of the same year Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Council of Elders of the Balkar People Oyus Gurtuev was sentenced to a fine of 50 thousand rubles. He was accused of Art. 129 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (slander).
Gurtuev appealed the decision to the cassation instance, but it was upheld. Then a supervisory appeal was filed.
Recall that Gurtuev accused the president of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic of Arsen Kanokov in a number of crimes falling under the definition extremism.
