On June 4, 2010, it became known that the prosecutor's office of the Omsk region had opened a criminal case under Part 1 of Article 282 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (inciting hatred) against the local religious organization of Jehovah's Witnesses.
The Center for Combating Extremism of the regional police department believes that the organization distributed extremist materials between October 2009 and May 2010.
According to Jehovah's Witnesses, on June 4, searches were carried out in the apartments of believers and liturgical buildings in the city, during which computers and documents, including those not related to religious activities, were confiscated.
