On May 18, 2010, the Kostroma District Court of the Kostroma Region delivered a guilty verdict in the case of a racist attack on a policeman committed in February 2010.
The court found 21-year-old Kostroma resident Andrei Kapin guilty under Part 1 of Art. 282 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (actions aimed at inciting hatred or enmity committed in public), Part 1 of Article 318 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (use of violence against a representative of authority), Art. 319 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (insulting a representative of the authorities) and sentenced him to 2.5 years of suspended imprisonment with the same probationary period.
In addition to the general restrictions imposed on him by a suspended sentence (the obligation to appear for registration at the state specialized body that controls the correction of convicts, not to change his place of residence without notifying the specified body, not to commit administrative offenses in the field of public order), the court ordered A. Kapin to undergo a course of treatment from alcoholism.
