On July 12, 2010, the Baltic Garrison Military Court (Kaliningrad Region) sentenced seven sailors of the Baltic Fleet. Let us remember that they were accused of bullying their colleagues, taking away their personal belongings and beating them.

The circumstances of the case give reason to believe that the crimes were committed based on national hatred, but due to the fact that one of the accused, Vitaly Shakhov, is ethnically Russian (the other six are natives of Dagestan), he was not taken into account.

All seven were found guilty of a group violation of the statutory rules of relations between military personnel (clauses “b” and “c” of Part 2 of Article 335 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) and were sentenced:

Sirazhutdin Cheriev, Gadzhibakhmud Kurbanov, Arag Eminov, Jamal Temirbulatov and Vitaly Shakhov - to one year and six months in prison;
Islam Khamurzov - to a year in prison;
Naib Taigibov – one year and nine months in prison. However, taking into account the sentence for robbery (Part 1 of Article 161 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) and extortion (Part 1 of Article 163 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation), he will spend a total of three years in prison.
