Imam-khatib of the Central Cathedral Mosque of Ulyanovsk Rustam Safin addressed a complaint against the leadership of the gymnasium to the Ministry of Education of the Ulyanovsk Region. The regional Ministry of Education replied that "at the Mariinsky Gymnasium education in the spirit of Orthodox culture is carried out in relation to all children, regardless of their nationality or religion."
R. Safin applied to the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation. The federal authority confirmed that "it is forbidden teaching minors religion against their will and without the consent of their parents or persons replacing them, the permanent placement of objects of worship (including crucifixes, icons or portraits of heads of religious organizations) in state and municipal educational institutions are not allowed.
