In the Ryazan Kremlin, in anticipation of the transfer of the Archangel Cathedral to the diocese, an exhibition of ancient Russian art was dismantled

On August 11, 2010, in the state historical and architectural museum-reserve "Ryazan Kremlin" the exhibition of ancient Russian art in the Archangel Cathedral was dismantled.

On August 12, during a press conference on the situation around the Kremlin, Deputy Director of the Museum-Reserve for Science Irina Kusova said that the Ministry of Emergency Situations issued an order to carry out fire-fighting work in the cathedral, but the museum management received information about the impending transfer of the Archangel Cathedral to the Ryazan diocese (an official order for this account does not). In order not to invest museum funds in the building that will be transferred, the administration chose to dismantle the exhibition.

I. Kusova recalled that the concept for the development of the museum-reserve, adopted in May 2010, did not provide for the transfer of the Archangel Cathedral to the diocese; it was to be used jointly. However, the Ministry of Culture, violating the agreement, agreed to transfer the cathedral.

Since the diocese lays claim not only to the buildings, but also to the religious objects on display, museum staff decided to remove the 13th-century Hodegetria of Ryazan icon and several other exhibits from storage, fearing for their safety.

Let us remember that in 2009 the largest museum exhibition “For the Glory of the Fatherland” was dismantled in order to transfer the premises to the diocese. The museum did not receive any premises in return. The museum has already donated 155 objects to the diocese. The transfer of objects of the Ryazan Kremlin to the diocese causes public protests .
