A sentence was passed in Yaroslavl for xenophobic graffiti

On October 18, 2010, in Yaroslavl, the court sentenced 23-year-old Sergei Biryukov and 20-year-old Alexei Shenderov for xenophobic graffiti and swastikas, with which they covered the buildings of the Kirov District Court and the regional migration service on the night of May 18-19 this year.

As it turned out during the investigation, with this action they wanted to “honor the memory” of one of the leaders of the famous St. Petersburg gang of Nazi skinheads, Dmitry Borovikov, who died on that day during his arrest in 2006.

The young people were detained at the crime scene and released after giving evidence. As it turned out later, they indicated incorrect home addresses and disappeared. It took law enforcement agencies a month and a half to detain them again.

They were accused of vandalism motivated by hatred (Part 2 of Article 214 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) and of public calls for extremist activity (Article 280 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).

The court sentenced A. Shenderov to 1 year, and S. Birokov to 10 months in a penal colony.
