Orthodox organizations held a rally in Moscow in defense of “traditional family values”

On October 30, 2010, in Moscow on Bolotnaya Square, activists and supporters of Orthodox public organizations held a rally in defense of “traditional moral values.” Participants in the event claim that about a thousand people attended the rally. The organizer of the picket was the People's Council movement; representatives of the Union of Orthodox Banner Bearers, the Union of Orthodox Citizens, the St. George movement and representatives of the Cossacks were present.

One of the main themes of the action was “counteracting the spread of sexual perversion and the destruction of traditional ideas about family morality.” The speakers spoke about the need for legislative support for the ban on gay pride parades and “other actions of sexual minorities” in Moscow.

Igor Mangushev, coordinator of the Orthodox youth movement Georgievtsy, said that his organization intends to “draw public attention to the unlawful decision of the European Court of Human Rights, which actually allows gays to hold public rallies in Moscow.”

“We must not allow the fundamental, family values ​​of our country to be destroyed according to the Western model,” he emphasized.

The movement is collecting signatures for a legislative ban on gay pride parades in Moscow.

In addition, it is reported that at the meeting there were also calls for the protection of the Bogolyubsky Monastery , “which is being attacked by liberal activists of this Church,” and printed materials from the monastery’s Board of Trustees were distributed.

The leader of the Union of Orthodox Citizens, Valentin Lebedev, made direct calls to protect the Bogolyubsky Monastery and its confessor. In his opinion, “supporters of juvenile justice are interested in dispersing the monastery and stirring up a scandal with ‘non-existent abuse of children’.”

Slogans calling for the introduction of moral censorship in the media and life “according to Russian laws” were also seen at the rally.
